  • The 75-year-old wife of King Charles III reportedly smoked 10 cigarettes a day
  • Queen Camila was recently spotted at a holistic and wellness center in Bengaluru

Camilla Queen Consort used to be a heavy smoker back in the day, but a health scare triggered her to quit smoking for good.

Back in 2001, the 75-year-old wife of King Charles III finally gave up smoking after suffering from rhinitis, or the inflammation of the nose, an allergic reaction commonly caused by allergens in the air, including pollen, dust mites, mold, animal dander and smoke, Daily Mail reported.

Much to the ruling monarch's delight, he no longer had to deal with so much smoke around him because Camila reportedly used to smoke at least 10 cigarettes a day.

"She had a persistent cough which she couldn't shake off," Queen Camila's close friend exclusively told the outlet, "It wasn't connected to her smoking, but she decided it was a good opportunity."

The friend continued, "She's been trying to give up for as long as I have known her, but this time she's given up for good," after revealing that Camila apparently said, "It wasn't so much me giving up smoking, rather smoking giving up on me."

The King's companion also attempted to give up smoking earlier in 2001, before she finally quit two to three months later, when she went on a trek to the Himalayas to "'re-energize her spirits and encourage her to give up smoking." She was accompanied by the then-Prince of Wales' favorite health guru, Dr. Mosaraf Ali.

Since then, Queen Camilla regularly visited Dr. Ali's London practice and was advised to take up yoga to help her quit smoking permanently and to aid in her back pain. At the time, she was only 53.

Great Britain's newly crowned queen has taken various measures to ensure that her health is in top shape by taking ballet classes and wearing a Fitbit smartwatch, which monitors her physical fitness, heart rate and sleep quality.

Recently, the Queen was spotted in Soukya, a holistic health and wellness center near Whitefield, Bengaluru, along with her close friends and escorted by the Royalty and Specialist Protection, an elite force of Scotland, according to the Times of India.

It wasn't the first time the royal visited the center, which offers a wide range of health programs that "help cleanse, de-stress, soothe and revitalize the mind, body, and spirit," as she was a regular client that started visiting back in 2010. So far, she has reportedly made around eight visits. In 2019, Queen Camilla was accompanied by her husband, King Charles, in celebration of his 71st birthday.

Soukya chairman Dr. Isaac Mathai has personally tended to the Queen's health needs; however, personnel at Soukya were not allowed to reveal details of the ayurvedic and naturopathy therapies she would have due to confidentiality clauses.
