A massive search for Lyra (Dafne Keen) will begin in “His Dark Materials” episode 3. A preview video of the next episode has been released online, which shows Marisa Coulter (Ruth Wilson) going to great lengths to find the girl.

A promo video released by HBO shows Mrs. Coulter threatening The Master (Clarke Peters) in order to find Lyra. The Master blames Coulter for the missing girl, and at the same time he is curious to find out the truth about the different worlds and uncover the mysteries of the Dust.

Mrs. Coulter will order a massive search for Lyra. The people, who are already angry about the missing children, will be pushed over the edge by the actions of the authorities.

While the agents of the Magisterium conduct their search, Lyra too will be searching for answers. Her journey began with a question about a kidnapped friend. Another preview video shows her trying to connect the dots, and wondering if her troubles have anything to do with her father’s work.

According to “His Dark Materials” episode 3 synopsis, Lyra will find an unlikely source who will help her after being kidnapped by the Gobblers. Her new friend and ally will help her piece together her past and also help her avoid being captured by the Magisterium.

The central question the characters in the show are interested in has to do with Dust. According to Collider, episode 3 will explore how each daemon is a reflection of its master’s soul, and how each person wishes his/her daemon was a different animal. The daemons of children change form and become different animals and birds, but they settle down on a permanent form around puberty.

“His Dark Materials” episode 3 is titled “The Spies.” It is set to air on Nov. 18 at 9 p.m. EST on HBO.
