Elon Musk’s Tesla pickup truck is expected to make an appearance this year, but we’re still looking for new information regarding the EV company’s next electric vehicle.

Little information is known about the elusive pickup truck, but based on what Tesla’s CEO is willing to share, its design is going to be extraordinary, bordering on futuristic and cyberpunk. It’s also going to be huge, with a large enough cabin that could fit people the size of former wrestler Andre the Giant.

What’s interesting about Elon Musk’s pickup truck, however, is the fact that despite its modern take on the all-time favorite AUV, the truck is still expected to be highly functional. In fact, the Tesla CEO likened the Tesla pickup with Ford’s popular F-series trucks.

“It will be a better truck than an F-150 in terms of truck-like functionality, and be a better sports car than a standard [Porsche] 911. That’s the aspiration,” Musk said during a podcast episode of “Ride the Lightning.”

According to a report, Ford’s F-150 trucks are the best-selling pickup trucks in the U.S. market today so one would wonder how Tesla plans to overtake this consumer loyalty. Comparing both vehicles, there are a few points on how the Tesla pickup could win the hearts of Ford loyalists.

First, the Tesla pickup will be priced at less than $50,000 for the base model. This is considered a good deal for an electric vehicle and considering that it’ll be from Tesla, we know for sure that the base model will have enough technological advancements to keep customers happy.

The 2019 Ford F-150 will sell at roughly $28,000 for the base model but the top tier can go up to as much as $70,000.

Next, the Tesla pickup will be capable of an amazing 300,000-pound towing capability. Some analysts have called this claim as crazy but this report from Teslarati actually said that it is feasible. Imagine the power this vehicle could give owners when it comes to one’s utility needs.

In comparison, the 2019 Ram 1500 has a towing capacity of only 12,750 pounds, a feature which Musk described as “puny.”

And then there are the other nice features to have when you purchase the Tesla EV variant such as a battery that could run to 100 kWh, a dual motor all-wheel drive engine, onboard power outlets, some amazing safety features and 400 to a 500-mile range on a full charge. If the Tesla pickup can fulfill all of these supposed features then the Ford F-series definitely has a strong contender to look out for.
