The US-China trade war and the COVID-19 outbreak do not seem to share the Chines tech giant Huawei. The company recently launched its second foldable smartphone in China, the Mate Xs, which was sold out just seconds after it was put on sale. A new leak surfaced earlier, revealing an impressive upgrade in the performance of the upcoming Huawei Mate 40 smartphone.

Huawei Mate 40 Performance

A new report claims that the Huawei Mate 40 will feature a 50 percent performance boost compared to the Huawei Mate 30. The increase in the upcoming smartphone’s processing power will be courtesy of the powerful Kirin 1020 SoC that will replace the Kirin 990 found on the current generation Huawei mate smartphone. This new SoC is reportedly based on the 5nm process, a massive leap from Kirin 990’s 7nm+EUV process.

The new in-house SoC chip of the Chinese tech giant is believed to be using the ARM Cortex-A78 cores. It is a massive jump from the current Kirin 990, which uses Cortex A-76 cores. The 5nm wafer chipset would be reportedly manufactured by the Taiwanese Semiconductor Manufacturing Company ( TSMC ), the same company that develops the rumored Apple 5nm A14 Bionic chip. The Cortex A-78 exceeds Cortex A-77 found on Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC. Kirin 1020 is also anticipated to come with a 5G modem.
