Two regional lawmakers in India were filmed by broadcasters watching pornography in an assembly room during a debate, according to reports.

Footage of Gujarat legislators Shankarbhai Chaudhary and Jethabhai Bharwad watching porn on a tablet computer while sitting in the state assembly hall was shown to television viewers Wednesday.

The two members of the Bharatiya Janata Party, or BJP, denied the reports, calling them baseless, Reuters reported.

Nothing of this sort happened, Chaudhary told reporters. This is being done to malign me.

The incident, which was broadcast live, sparked angry and humorous exchanges on Twitter in India, with #porngate and Gujarat Assembly becoming trending topics, Reuters reported.

The incident follows a similar case in February, also involving BJP members.

Three party members, including a minister of women's affairs, were caught watching porn on a mobile phone during an assembly session in Karnataka state.

Laxman Savadi was filmed sharing a porn clip with colleague C.C. Patil on a phone belonging to the state minister for ports, science and technology, Krishna Palemar, Australia's ABC News reported.

Regarding the February incident, former federal minister for women's development Renuka Chowdhary said: We live in a country where there already is this social mind-set that women are disposable commodities and are seen as transferable properties. It really is troubling that the people who are in positions of power and have the responsibility to change things actually have the same mind-set and are busy watching porn.

All three officials later resigned.
