It’s going to be a while before “Dancing With the Stars” fans see Maksim Chmerkovskiy back in the ballroom. The pro dancer is out with a calf injury that’s more serious than previously projected.

Maks hasn’t given a date for his return, but sources say it’s going to be a while. According to ET Online, doctors want him out for several weeks as his injury is “a lot worse” than they thought. They’re certain he’ll try to rush it to get back to dancing.

“He told everyone he will be back in a couple of weeks but that isn’t true, it’s a lot worse than everyone initially thought,” sources told ET Online. “Doctors are insisting that Maks sit out for at least a month, but knowing Maks he will try and rush it and get back into the competition.”

The “DWTS” pro shared an update with fans from his hospital bed on Thursday. In the photo, he’s sporting a blue hospital gown with an IV in the back of his hand. The photo suggests he was about to head into surgery when he took it.

People magazine reported Maks is being treated by the best of the best. He sought out Dr. William A. Seeds, who runs an Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine practice in Ohio. The doctor has treated “DWTS” pros Peta Murgatroyd and Artem Chigvintsev.

While Maks works on “gettin’ ubroken,” as he’s called it, Peta and baby Shai are home awaiting his return. His future wife snapped a photo of their son, wishing her fiancé a speedy recovery. In the adorable snap shot, Shai’s wearing a “daddy’s little guy” bib.

This is one of many updates “DWTS” fans have received from Maks and Peta. Before going under the knife, Maks shared a video of himself set to Chamillionaire’s “Ridin’ Dirty.” In it, he’s pushing a suitcase while riding a knee walker.

“DWTS” airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC. Don’t miss Vegas Week!
