Zucker graduated from Harvard College in 1986 with a bachelor's degree in American history. He served as president of The Harvard Crimson, the daily student newspaper of Harvard University, from 1985 to 1986.

He began his career with NBC in 1986, starting as a researcher before becoming a producer.

As president of CNN Worldwide, Zucker oversaw 23 branded news and information businesses, including CNN's U.S. television network, CNN International, HLN and CNN Digital.

In 1996, Zucker married Caryn Stephanie Nathanson who was working on “Saturday Night Live” at the time. They separated in 2020 due to differences in their lifestyles. The two share four children.

In 2007, Zucker and Nathanson paid $12.3 million for a Manhattan apartment. In 2020, they placed the five-bedroom apartment for sale for $17.5 million. The two also co-own a 1.5-acre estate in the Hamptons that they bought for $7.3 million.
