  • Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho said Son Heung-min has a quiet life in and outside the pitch
  • Mourinho suggests Son should "make some noise" in order to become more recognized
  • The renowned manager hopes Tottenham would extend the South Korean striker's contract soon

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho said Son Heung-min is already a world-class striker but might have to do something out of the ordinary to become more famous.

One thing that made the Spurs an incredible team is the attacking prowess of Harry Kane and Son. The pair has been bagging goals for Mourinho’s side for years, but the England captain appears to be more heralded as an exceptional athlete compared to the South Korean attacker.

For Mourinho, the under-appreciation of Son’s qualities has nothing to do with any of his teammates as he believes it’s due to his silent-type persona. The Spurs boss suggested that Son could gain more recognition if he could capture the attention of the fans in and outside the pitch.

“Maybe our world doesn’t accept kids like him – discreet, humble kid, normal life, quiet life, incredible social behavior,” Mourinho recently told Sky Sports of Son. “Maybe the world doesn’t like top professionals like him. Maybe he should make some noise. He’s a rockstar when he plays.”

As for Son’s ability to shine inside the field, Mourinho has no doubt his player has already proven himself. The 57-year-old pointed out that it’s the media and the fans’ job to make Son more famous while also acknowledging the fact that playing for a better team can make it happen faster and easier.

“It is up to you – he [Son] cannot do more than what he does!” the coach pointed out. “Season after season after season Sonny is showing how good he is. Of course, the better the team is the easier it is for the players to emerge. But Sonny is Sonny, everybody knows what he now needs to do to go to a next step – nothing. It is up to you to do that.”

Son has been playing one of the best seasons of his career. In fact, the former Bayer Leverkusen superstar has now tallied a total of nine goals and four assists in eight appearances for Tottenham.

His most notable performances so far were the sensational braces in Spurs’ decisive victories over Manchester United and Southampton.

Mourinho also recently addressed Son’s future at Tottenham. The striker’s current contract is due to expire in 2023 but is in talks over an extension.

“I wish [for Son to get a new contract],” Mourinho said. "He deserves one. The club knows that and sooner or later, without any pressure, they will arrive into a decision.”
