  • Salah has netted 28 goals in the ongoing season
  • He is contracted with Liverpool until 2023
  • Liverpool are chasing a historic quadruple this season

Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp has given a promising update on Mohamed Salah's ongoing contract situation.

Salah, who has established himself as one of the best players in the history of Liverpool, has a deal with the Reds until 2023. His contract saga has been going on for a few months amid the player's links with a few top clubs, including FC Barcelona.

Klopp said that while there were no new details regarding Salah's contract talks, he was happy with the situation.

"I'm happy with it because there's nothing new to say, that's good. It's just good. The decisive parties are talking to each other and that's all I need, and that's it," Klopp said in a pre-match conference Monday, according to Liverpool's official website.

The German boss' comments have come on the eve of Liverpool's Champions League quarter-final first leg against Benfica.

Liverpool have tied down a number of senior players to new deals this season. Salah's contract talks had stalled earlier due to the Egyptian forward's wage demands. However, he is now close to agreeing to a new deal with the club that would keep him there until the end of his career, according to Sky Sports.

Salah has netted 28 goals and 10 assists in 37 competitive appearances for the Anfield side in the ongoing season. Overall, Salah has scored 153 goals and 57 assists since his arrival from Roma in 2017.

The Reds are unbeaten in 19 out of their last 20 matches, across all competitions. They have already won a trophy – League Cup, their record ninth title in the domestic tournament. As of now, Klopp's side is alive in all the remaining three competitions as they are chasing a historic quadruple. In the 2021-22 Premier League, Liverpool are placed second in the table but are just a point behind leaders Manchester City.

Klopp and Co. have reached Lisbon and are gearing up to take on Benfica in the Champions League. The latest trip is a tad more special for Klopp because the German boss was on holiday with his family in Portugal when he got the call from Liverpool regarding the head coach's role.

In the pre-match conference, Klopp also recalled the phone call from his agent. He said "the decision was made" as soon as he told his sons of Liverpool's offer.

Six and a half years later, Klopp is one of the most successful managers in the Merseyside club's history. Under his charge, Liverpool have won five trophies, including their maiden Premier League title and sixth Champions League trophy.
