A new tell-all on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry revealed that Kate Middleton never made an "effort to bond with Markle."

A new excerpt from the book, titled "Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family" written by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, revealed that the sisters-in-law never became close.

"Meghan would agree with the assessment that the duchesses were not the best of friends. Their relationship hadn’t progressed much since she was Harry’s girlfriend," the authors wrote.

When Markle started dating Prince Harry, she thought he Duchess of Sussex would help her understand "everything an outsider needed to know." But Middleton never made an "effort to bond with Markle."

"Meghan was disappointed that she and Kate hadn’t bonded over the position they shared, but she wasn’t losing sleep over it," the authors wrote.

A source told the authors that the reason behind Middleton not pursuing a close friendship with Markle was because they didn’t have much in common "other than the fact that they lived at Kensington Palace."

The book also revealed that the sisters-in-law "struggled to move past the distant politeness of when they first met." They began working on their relationship after the birth of Markle’s son, Archie. However, their relationship got strained in January following Markle and Harry’s decision to step back from their senior roles.

"Although Meghan tried to make eye contact with Kate, the duchess barely acknowledged her," the book said.

The authors also wrote that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to leave the Royal Family came after months of friction with the members of the household who felt the couple’s popularity was eclipsing them.

"As their popularity had grown, so did Harry and Meghan’s difficulty in understanding why so few inside the palace were looking out for their interests. There were just a handful of people at the palace they could trust," the authors wrote.

The tell-all is scheduled to release Aug. 11. A spokesman for the Duke and Duchess confirmed last week that the couple was not involved in the book.

"The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not interviewed and did not contribute to ‘Finding Freedom.’ This book is based on the authors’ own experiences as members of the royal press corps and their own independent reporting," the spokesperson said.
