Kate Middleton stood beside Queen Elizabeth II and Camilla Parker Bowles at Remembrance Day service.

According to Express, the Duchess of Cambridge took pride of place at the Remembrance DAY service because she stood in the balcony of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office building same as the Queen and Duchess of Cornwall. The three royals also stood next to each other last year.

On the other hand, Meghan Markle was not seen with the three ladies because she was on a different veranda. The Duchess of Sussex was standing next to Vice Admiral Timothy Laurence, Princess Anne’s husband and Sophie, Countess of Wessex. The publication noted that positioning Middleton next to Queen Elizabeth II and Markle next to Sophie was not a slight against Prince Harry’s wife. Their position on the balcony goes down to the royal protocol.

“She was not as prominent perhaps as some people might have expected, but there’s a pecking order,” Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty magazine, previously told People. “There was no slight intended, but William being the older, more senior brother would go out [first] with his wife.”

“There’s no one laying this out, telling her where to stand. And there were a lot of kids who everyone would want at the front,” a palace source also said.

If Camilla didn’t make it to the event, Markle would have probably joined Queen Elizabeth II and Middleton on the same balcony and took the Duchess of Cornwall’s spot. Last week, Camilla was set to join Prince Harry and Markle in one event, but she was forced to cancel her attendance due to health reasons. Prince Charles’ wife had a chest infection and it reportedly got progressively worse over the last few days.

Since Camilla’s condition got better and she was present at the Remembrance Day ceremony, Markle stayed on a different balcony. Last year, Prince Harry’s wife was spotted standing next to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s wife Elke Budenbender. Thus, finding Markle on a different veranda or not sharing a balcony with Queen Elizabeth II, Camilla and Middleton wasn’t a huge surprise at all.
