Kelly Clarkson will not be joining “American Idol” as a judge because the singer will be heading to NBC’s “The Voice” Season 14.

According to Variety, Clarkson will be joining resident judges Blake Shelton and Adam Levine in Season 14. However, a fourth judge has yet to be named by the network. “The Voice” is currently on its 12th season, and Clarkson’s fellow “American Idol” contestant, Jennifer Hudson, will act as judge in Season 13, joining Season 11 judge Miley Cyrus.

The publication revealed that the producers of “The Voice” have been urging Clarkson to join the reality TV show, but she has never said yes due to conflicts in her schedule. Clarkson herself has expressed her desire to be part of “The Voice,” and she’s not new to the concept of the show because she was also a product of a singing reality TV competition several years ago. Clarkson and Shelton are both represented by Narvel Blackstock’s Starstruck Entertainment.

Following NBC’s announcement, Clarkson released a statement expressing her excitement over her upcoming venture on television. “I’m so excited to join ‘The Voice’ on NBC. We’ve gone back and forth about a role as a coach for years, but the timing hasn’t been right until now. I have always loved appearing on the show as an adviser or performer and established an amazing relationship with the network during my Christmas special. I can’t wait to turn my chair and see the faces of up-and-coming artists and provide them with the help and support they’ve needed to break into the industry. Watch out Shelton, I’m coming to win!!” she said.

Meanwhile, there were recent reports that Clarkson was going to join the upcoming “American Idol” reboot as judge. ABC just made the official announcement confirming the revival of the former FOX TV show. In the past, Clarkson has also served as guest judge, and her positive personality and knowledge in the industry made her an effective one. However, it seems that “The Voice” was able to approach Clarkson first because the reboot on ABC has only been finalized earlier this week.

“American Idol” is set to premiere sometime next year, and there are rumors that “The Voice” Season 14 will air its first episode around the same time. Both reality TV shows will also be competing against each other for ratings. As of late, ABC has committed to roughly 40 hours of “American Idol,” which means that the show could air two nights per week. An insider claimed that one of those nights will be on Sunday. “The Voice,” on the other hand, also airs twice a week, on Monday and Tuesday nights.

As of late, “The Voice” Season 12 is still ongoing on NBC. Just recently, two artists from Team Adam were sent home. Mark Isaiah was finally booted off after being in the bottom two for the past two weeks. He was joined by Lilli Passero at the bottom two after Team Alicia’s Vanessa Ferguson was able to move on to the next round because of the Instant Save.
