  • Fabricio Andrade campaigns for a matchup with Team Lakay's Stephen Loman
  • Kevin Belingon believes Andrade may not be ready for Loman's skillset
  • A matchup between Andrade and Loman may certainly happen in the immediate future

Brazilian bantamweight Fabricio Andrade is one of the hottest mixed martial arts (MMA) prospects on the roster of ONE Championship and has been working his way towards a shot at the title.

As he continues his ascent atop the rankings, Andrade took aim at ex-BRAVE CF bantamweight titleholder Stephen Loman of Team Lakay in order to eliminate all potential contenders.

Andrade’s last fight saw him knock Kwon Won Il out in under two minutes after landing a hellacious body kick that forced the South Jorean to the mat in the co-main event of ONE 158.

Former ONE bantamweight champion and Loman’s teammate Kevin Belingon captured his attention and believes Andrade may be getting more than what he asked for.

“I think Stephen can submit him or knock him out. His striking is different, if they face [each other] I think he’ll either knock him or submit him,” Belingon said.

“I think Stephen is more complete, he can take you down and control and he has power and timing. So if that happens, for me I think Stephen can take him on.”

Team Lakay mentor Mark Sangiao recounted after ONE 158 that he ran into Andrade at the hotel where they were staying at in Singapore, with Andrade telling him directly that he wanted to face Loman.

Loman’s first foray into the promotion saw him knockout Yusup Saadulaev in one round at ONE: Winter Warriors 2 in December 2021, while he took Japanese grappler Shoko Sato to his absolute limit at ONE X in March this year.

For Belingon, Andrade’s desire to face Loman may simply be because he wants to prove himself to MMA fans and the rest of the division that he deserves at least a shot at the title.

“He [Andrade] says a lot of things, but he’s proving it in the Circle. He’s walking the walk. We’ve seen his previous fights, he really performed to the highest level. His timing is impeccable. He’s a great fighter,” Belingon added.

A Loman-Andrade matchup would certainly be a fight that will catch the attention of MMA fans as the pair’s striking power could make for an enticing three-round fight.

It remains to be seen whether the Singapore-based combat sports outfit would make it happen or not.
