  • Kardashian noted that the nasty comparisons between them killed her self-esteem back then

Kim Kardashian recounted the time when she and Kate Middleton were both pregnant and were pitted against each other by many critics.

The "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" star got candid about her feelings when she was compared to the Duchess of Cambridge when they were both expecting in 2013. Speaking about the experience on the "We Are Supported By" podcast with hosts Kristen Bell and Monica Padman, the 40-year-old reality star admitted that the comparisons made her cry.

"It was really, really crazy," she was quoted by Sky News as saying. "They would always compare me to Kate Middleton so it would say, 'Kate the waif and Kim the whale, the waif versus the whale.'"

She continued, "It was so nasty. I don't think that would really fly today, but it killed my self-esteem. I really can't believe that this was acceptable and that this was okay. But I would sit at home and cry all the time."

Middleton was expecting Prince George at the time while Kardashian was pregnant with her first child, North. They gave birth just a month apart. Kardashian delivered North on June 15, 2013. The duchess gave birth to her firstborn on July 22, 2013.

According to Kardashian, she was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia during her pregnancy. The condition led to the swelling of her feet and face.

During the same interview, Kardashian spoke about her estranged husband and the kids' dad, Kanye West. She credited him for helping her learn that she should prioritize herself first over the opinions of others because she used to be a "people pleaser."

"I used to be such a people-pleaser," Kardashian said. "And then when I got to just learn to please myself, no matter what that meant to other people ... but just being myself first, I think was something that I learned over time, whether it's being so close to someone that really felt that way so genuinely to their core, or whether it's age, whether it's being a mom, experiences, all probably all kind of wrapped into one."

Kardashian and West remain amicable following their split as they co-parent their four children — North, 8, Saint, 5, Chicago, 3, and Psalm, 2. In fact, she attended his listening parties for his album "Donda."

On the second listening party at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, West unveiled a new track titled "Lord I Need You." The single appeared to reference his ongoing divorce with Kardashian, and it also suggested that she's still in love with him.

"Time and space is a luxury / But you came here to show that you're still in love with me," West rapped in the track, as per People.
