  • Reggie Miller reveals who the Lakers should keep for the next season
  • Miller appoints CJ McCollum as a better co-star for LeBron James
  • Damian Lillard is being linked to the Lakers and Golden State Warriors

One of Kobe Bryant’s NBA Finals rivals has weighed in on the future of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Like in the previous offseasons, the Lakers are once again expected to bolster their squad.

Among the names being linked to a move to LA is Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard.

Indeed, Lillard will make a great addition to the current Lakers team, having been one of the best scoring point guards in the NBA today.

However, NBA legend Reggie Miller--who played the Lakers in the 2000 NBA Finals--suggested that the “Purple and Gold” must consider Lillard’s co-star CJ McCollum instead.

According to Miller, “Dame” is a tremendous player who can beat his opponents with the “ball in his hands” all the time, a playing style that would not complement with James’ style.

“No, no, no, absolutely not,” Miller said on “The Dan Patrick Show” when asked if the Lakers should trade for Lillard. “As much as I love Damian Lillard, Lillard has to have the ball in his hands to be successful. It’s what’s made him great–a great isolation, one-on-one, high pick-and-roll player.”

“For LeBron [James], what he’s done throughout his career, needs the ball to be successful,” he continued. “I don’t think they would play well off of one another. I just don’t. And I think that’s why Anthony Davis is a perfect complement if he can stay healthy, to LeBron. Do you know who would be better on that team? CJ McCollum would be great on the Lakers with LeBron.”

Further stressing his idea, Miller even advised the Lakers to keep some and deal some should they consider pursuing McCollum.

“I would get rid of [Dennis] Schroder,” the Pacers icon pointed out. “And I would possibly think about getting rid of Kyle Kuzma. I would, I would keep Talen Horton-Tucker, I like him. I would break [Alex] Caruso out of jail in Texas, get him back.”

“And yeah, I would get rid of Schroder and Kuzma for CJ McCollum, I would, I think he would be perfect for the Lakers,” he added.

Apart from the Lakers, recent reports say the Golden State Warriors are also working on bringing in Lillard and are now one step ahead in the race to sign the clutch point guard.

McCollum, on the other hand, would have become an unrestricted free agent. However, the Blazers managed to secure his future in 2019 after agreeing to a three-year contract extension with the team.
