KEY POINTS

  • Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler went out on a few dates after their initial split
  • The “Laguna Beach” alum initially wanted to save their marriage
  • Cavallari ultimately realized it was time to end their “toxic” relationship

Kristin Cavallari has spoken up about what made her decide to ultimately end her relationship with ex Jay Cutler.

The 34-year-old television personality did not hold back during her interview with “Off the Vine With Kaitlyn Bristowe” this week, especially when she discussed her decision to finally let go of her 38-year-old ex-husband.

According to Cavallari, she actually tried to save their marriage following their initial split. She and Cutler agreed to go out on a couple of dates in hopes of reviving the spark and rekindling their romance, but things did not work out.

“Jay and I actually went on a couple dates months and months and months ago, but we did. But it wasn't there anymore. It wasn't there for me anymore,” she was quoted as saying in the interview by Entertainment Tonight.

Instead of bringing back her love and affection for Cutler, the dates just helped Cavallari feel sure about her decision to walk away from their relationship, which she described as “toxic.”

“I just decided I didn't want to be in a toxic relationship anymore, and I had to break it off. But that's made it hard and made me sit here and question it for a few months,” she said, before adding that in hindsight, she realized she was making the right decision after spending time with Cutler post-split.

The “Laguna Beach” alum admitted that the whole ordeal was “such a rollercoaster” for her because even though she considered breaking up with Cutler “the best decision I’ve ever made,” there were still sad moments along the way, according to E! News.

Cavallari filed for divorce from the ex-NFL quarterback in April 2020 following seven years of marriage. The former couple share three kids, 9-year-old Camden Jack, 7-year-old Jaxon Wyatt and 5-year-old Saylor James.

The “Very Cavallari” star previously shared that her own parents’ divorce influenced the way she handled her breakup with the father of her children. According to her, she just wanted her kids to be happy, and she felt that divorcing was the best option for their family to move forward.

“I don't want my kids growing up thinking that this is a good relationship because I got to see my mom [get] remarried and in a good relationship, so I knew what one was,” Cavallari was quoted as saying by People.
