Kylian Mbappe is set to miss the Round of 16 first-leg game between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Bayern Munich due to an injury.

Mbappe had a nightmare outing for PSG against Montpellier in Ligue 1 on Thursday. The French forward missed two penalties, an open goal and suffered a hamstring injury, which will sideline him for a few weeks. In the process, Mbappe is expected to miss a minimum of five matches, including PSG's home leg of the Champions League Round of 16 against Bayern Munich.

"After undergoing tests, Kylian Mbappé suffered an injury to the left thigh at the level of the femoral biceps. He is expected to be out of action for three weeks," PSG said in an official statement.

The Champions League fixture between PSG and Bayern Munich at Parc des Princes is scheduled to be played on Feb. 14. The second leg of the game will be held on March 8 at Munich's Allianz Arena.

Mbappe, who was forced off the field after 21 minutes into the first half Thursday, is also going to miss PSG's French Cup Round of 16 match against Marseille on Feb. 8. The other three fixtures that the 24-year-old forward will miss are PSG's Ligue 1 meetings with Toulouse (Feb. 4), Monaco (Feb. 11), and Lille (Feb. 19).

The French forward has been in fine form this season, scoring 25 goals and six assists in 26 matches for PSG in all competitions. In what was a surprise to everyone, Mbappe saw a penalty saved by Montpellier goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte before a retake was ordered and the World Cup Golden Boot winner missed it again.

The scoreline was 0-0 at the half-time break before Fabian Ruiz opened the scoring for PSG in the 55th minute. Later on, Lionel Messi doubled PSG's lead before Montpellier pulled one goal back but Warren Zaire-Emery ensured PSG bagged three crucial points by netting his side's third goal in injury time.

With 16 wins from 21 games, PSG have 51 points and are five points clear at the top of 2022-23 Ligue 1 table.
