Lamar Odom Update: Will Khloé Kardashian’s Ex Avoid Limelight Forever? Medical Bills Drying Up Odom’s $55M Fortune

Khloé Kardashian reportedly wants her estranged husband, Lamar Odom, to stay away from the limelight forever after his drug overdose nearly took his life. The news comes amid reports that Odom continues to face challenges in the road to his recovery.

“Lamar is still in really rough shape and may never be seen in public ever again,” a source told Hollywood Life Wednesday. “The Kardashian family may make him take a leave of absence from public life forever almost like Rob Kardashian who hasn’t been seen for a long time in the public eye.” Khloé’s brother, Rob Kardashian, has made very few public appearances and has been nearly off social media due to his excessive weight.

According to the source, the Kardashian clan does not want to harm its legacy by bringing Odom in front of the public. “Khloé and the family want people to remember him for who he was rather than who he is now,” the source said.

While several people close to Odom have previously said that the 36-year-old may never fully recover, the family is still hoping he’ll get back to his previous self and make a "Tracy Morgan type comeback and recovery but that is still some time away if at all a possibility," a source reportedly said. Morgan went into coma in June 2014 after a Wal-Mart tractor truck hit the limousine he was in, killing his friend James McNair. The 45-year-old comedian made a steady recovery after months of treatment.

Odom also went into coma after he was found unconscious in a Las Vegas brothel in October. Some reports said that Odom was brain-dead, but the ex-NBA player later regained consciousness.

Meanwhile, Radar Online reported that several days of treatment have already cost Odom $750,000, and by the end of this year his medical bills could be around $10 million.

“By the end of the year, he’ll have easily made at least a $10m dent in his $55m fortune,” an insider told Radar Online. “There’s no end in sight and he’s completely unaware of what’s going on.

“Khloé’s managing most of it, but to her money’s no object and she’s signing him up for the best treatments money can buy,” the insider said. “The fact they’re still only married in name has everyone on Lamar’s side freaking out because they know he’s going to be left with all these bills when she finally kicks him out.”

According to the insider, Odom may have to continue receiving the expensive treatment. “He needs this treatment,” the source added. “It’s what saved his life -- but who’s going to pay for it all is going to cause some legal hell down the line.”

Odom is currently being treated at the Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles.
