A rep for “Glee “ actress Lea Michele has released a statement following the death of co-star and boyfriend Cory Monteith. The 26-year-old’s rep said the following: “We ask that everyone kindly respect Lea’s privacy during this devastating time.”

Monteith was found in his Vancover hotel room on Saturday. The actor’s rep released a statement late Saturday, stating:

“We are so saddened to confirm that the reports on the death of Cory Monteith are accurate. We are in shock and mourning this tragic loss.”

A source close to Lea Michele told Showbizspy.com that the actress learned of her boyfriend’s death over the telephone. The actress reportedly “broke down in tears when she heard the news.”

“Cory was her whole world,” said the insider. “They’ve been through a lot together.”

In April Monteith checked himself into rehab for substance abuse, an issue he had struggle with since he was a teen. At the time Michele tweeted her support for Monteith, posting: “I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this. I am grateful and proud he made his decision.”

According to People.com, a cause of death is not apparent, but police say there were no indications of foul play. An autopsy is set for Monday, and Vancouver authorities will not comment on whether any drug paraphernalia was found in Monteith’s hotel room. Many are speculating Monteith’s cause of death to be due to a drug overdose, taking into account his history.
