A weakened Manchester United proved too much for bitter-rivals Leeds United as the visitors secured a 3-0 victory at Elland Road in the Carling Cup third round.

Michael Owen scored a brace while Ryan Giggs also finished a fine solo effort with a goal.

Sir Alex Ferguson sent out an attacking side, and it took just fifteen minutes for the opener. Dimitar Berbatov's defence-splitting pass found Park Ji-Sung who squared for Michael Owen to strike from 12 yards.

15 minutes later, Owen made a case for more regular inclusion in the first team, collecting a pass from Mame Diouf before powering in his second.

The game was wrapped up within the first half, as Ryan Giggs nutmegged Robert Snodgrass out wide, before cutting in to curl with the outside of his left foot.

Dimitar Berbatov finished as centre-back for ten-man Manchester United after debutant Zeki Fryers suffered an injury after United had used up all there allotted substitutions.
