League leaders Manchester City survived with ten-men at Anfield in an exhilarating match against Liverpool, in the Premier League.

Substitute Mario Balotelli saw two yellow cards, within 18 minutes after coming on, both for needless fouls and was sent off in the 83rd minute, leaving City to fend off a Liverpool side who sensed the opportunity to grab all three points off City for the first time this season.

The first goal of the game came just past the hour mark, when Vincent Kompany inadvertently glanced a corner, off his shoulder, and into goal. City's lead last all of two minutes though, after Charlie Adam's shot was turned into his own net by Joleon Lescott.

If the first half was exciting, the second was even more so. Goal-mouth action more than made up for a goalless second half, with both sides having good chances. After Balotelli was sent off, Joe Hart was City's hero, making a string of incredible saves to deny Liverpool the win.
