KEY POINTS

  • Youri Tielemans is contracted with Leicester until 2023
  • He has rejected any contract extension from the club
  • Tielemans is wanted by Liverpool and Real Madrid

Liverpool FC are reportedly preparing a fresh offer for Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans.

Along with Liverpool, Real Madrid are also interested in landing Tielemans, while Leicester are ready to part ways with the Belgian star but for the right price, reported Catalan publication El Nacional.

Real Madrid are seeing Tielemans as a long-term replacement for 32-year-old Toni Kroos. Meanwhile, this is not the first time Tielemans is being linked with Liverpool. Even last summer, when Gini Wijnaldum left Anfield as a free agent, the Reds wanted to bring in Tielemans as a replacement.

Liverpool are currently without a goal-scoring threat in their midfield and Tielemans is believed to be the perfect fit in that aspect. The Reds are set to approach Leicester with a new offer worth $45 million for Tielemans, according to the El Nacional report.

Moreover, Jurgen Klopp is an admirer of the 24-year-old midfielder, according to Teamtalk.

Tielemans, who moved from Monaco to Leicester in 2019, is contracted with the King Power side until 2023. The Premier League side has tried to convince the talented midfielder to stay but Tielemans has rejected any contract extension from the club, according to 90Min.

In addition, Leicester manager Brendan Rogers recently confirmed that Tielemans won’t sign a new deal with the club. "He [Tielemans] is at an age and at a stage in his contract where he has to ensure he looks at every option. I would love it to be here at Leicester but I understand it’s a very short career. For players it’s about ambition, the challenge and sometimes about a different environment," Rogers said in a recent interview, according to Football London.

With 25 points from 18 games, Leicester are 10th in the 2021-22 Premier League table. Even though the Foxes are struggling this season, Tielemans is having a decent run individually. The young midfielder has netted six goals and three assists in 23 competitive games for Leicester. Five of those goals have come in the Premier League.
