Liverpool’s chances of landing Wolves star Raul Jimenez lies on how much its parent company, Fenway Sports Group, supports Jurgen Klopp’s plans to retain their Premier League title, a veteran sports journalist and transfer guru says.

Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. is currently sitting on the seventh spot in Premier League standings. Though the club is bound to miss out on the Champions League, Jimenez has been able to keep the intensity going.

The Wolves are well aware that Jimenez has been drawing interest from the big clubs across Europe’s top five leagues. Ahead of the transfer window, Juventus, Manchester United and Liverpool are already linked to his name.

In a recent episode of his “The Transfer Window” podcast, Castles, a transfer insider and sports journalist for The Sunday Times, explained how Liverpool could possibly sign Jimenez, given the strong competition from other clubs.

Castles said it is likely that Klopp has Jimenez on his radar at this point. However, after an incredible goal-scoring season with the Wolves and the transfer fee splurged on him, the Mexican striker will surely come with a huge price tag.

“I can see why there would be interest from Liverpool and the player because of the way he has performed for Wolves. This will not be a cheap deal. Wolves paid a lot of money for Raul Jimenez to get him from Benfica. He is paid a very good salary there,” Castles said.

Castles thinks that Liverpool has the capability to fund a transfer move for Jimenez. But based on his assessment, the move could only happen if Liverpool's owners will be willing to back Klopp when he finally pursues Jimenez.

“They [Wolves] know his value, they’re a tough club to buy players from. I’m not sure whether Fenway Sports Group is prepared to back Klopp. Not in the manner which would be required financially to get Jimenez from Wolves,” Castles explained.

The veteran sports journalist predicted that the addition of Jimenez to Juventus and him playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala would be interesting to see. The same thing could also apply to Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

However, Castles emphasized that any move will boil down to the support Klopp will get from the owners as Liverpool aims to finish another Premier League season as champions.

“While there is an interest, an understandable interest. It will be an interesting test of how much support FSG are prepared to give Klopp going into this next season to defend that Premier League title,” he added.
