KEY POINTS

  • Liverpool's frontline remains solid, but the team is still linked with a move for a new striker
  • RB Salzburg's Karim Adeyemi is among the forwards the Reds want to sign
  • Adeyemi is being tracked by several European clubs, including Manchester United

Liverpool may have just taken the lead in race to sign a young breakout star already on Manchester United’s radar.

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have been exceptional as always for Liverpool this season. The two prolific strikers continued where they left off, combining for an amassing tally of 18 goals to date.

However, it appears that the Reds are still looking to add more depth in the front and now “have their eyes” on RB Salzburg striker Karim Adeyemi, Sport Witness reported, citing a page from a recent printed edition of German outlet Kurier.

The report said that a number of big-name sides in Europe is keen on landing Adeyemi, but Liverpool has regularly been as the youngster’s top suitor “over the last few weeks.”

If Liverpool’s interest in Adeyemi is genuine, the report noted that the Merseyside club must move quickly as Bayern Munich is also working on bringing the forward back to its squad.

In fact, it is said that “talks” between Bayern Munich and Adeyemi’s advisor Thomas Solomon, and father Abbey have already taken place at Säbener Straße last Saturday, October 16.

Among the other clubs tailing Adeyemi, per the report, are RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund.

Moreover, things are expected to be swift as Adeyemi’s transfer, which could cost around the region of €30 to 40 million ($35 to 46 million), is likely to happen sooner rather than later.

The aforementioned figure will reportedly see Adeyemi as the most expensive player in the history of the Austrian league, breaking the record set by Patson Daka’s move to Leicester City this past summer.

Also listed as one of Adeyemi’s admirers is Manchester United.

An earlier report stated that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side may plot a move for the 19-year-old.

According to the report, the Red Devils “might be able to rectify” the mistake they made when they missed out on Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland by strategically planning a swoop for Adeyemi.

What’s even more interesting, the report suggests that Adeyemi and Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin are the pair of youngsters Manchester United could consider as “ideal replacements” for aging striker Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani.

Adeyemi is now one of Austria’s most sought-after rising stars.

In his first full senior team season with RB Salzburg last year, he netted an impressive tally of nine goals in 10 matches across all competitions.

Atop that, the forward also completed an exceptional 11 assists to his name.
