The deal between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid has been confirmed care of a $7 million agreement for the services of Luis Suarez. The squad at Camp Nou shared an official statement and a social media campaign to offer a tribute to their four-time La Liga winner.

"FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Luis Suarez. The Madrid club will pay FC Barcelona €6 million in variables," the Catalan club shared in a statement, as reported by Goal.

Throughout the 33-year-old Suarez’s career, he proved to be among the elite strikers of the sport for Barca. In 283 appearances, he’s netted 198 goals and tallied 109 assists as Lionel Messi’s trusted partner. Their duo brought multiple titles to Camp Nou, including a Champions League trophy in the 2014-2015 season.

The team also started the hashtag #9raciasLuis as a way to honor the star before he starts a new journey with Atletico Madrid.

"FC Barcelona would like to publicly express their gratitude to Luis Suarez for his commitment and dedication and wishes him all the best for the future," the statement continued.

Before Atletico Madrid secured Suarez's contract, the star forward was near completing a deal with Juventus earlier in September. This did not push through as Suarez encountered issues with his Italian citizenship application due to allegations of cheating on his Italian citizenship exam.

The transfer to Atletico Madrid ends Suarez’s stellar career with Barca and signals a new direction for the club. Barca has been reported to be in a rebuilding phase after Quique Setien’s sacking and Messi’s impending exit from the team. While the six-time Ballon d’Or winner will stay with Barcelona, he’ll have to continue his stellar career without Suarez by his side.
