A man is in serious condition after he was stabbed in the head at a bar in Merseyside, England, Saturday.

Officers responded to the Vine Tavern on Elephant Lane in Thatto Heath, St. Helens, at about 8.55 p.m. Saturday, the Liverpool Echo reported, citing Merseyside Police.

When they arrived, police found the victim, whose name has not been released, being treated by paramedics for stab wounds to his arms, chest and head.

At least two people, one armed with a knife, were involved in the attack, according to the report.

The victim was brought to a local hospital for treatment. His injuries are believed to be serious but not life-threatening.

The events that led to the stabbing and the motive behind the attack have not been disclosed. No suspects have been identified, and no arrests have been made as of this writing.

According to Detective Inspector Leanne Toole, the investigation into the incident is still in the early stages, and extensive inquiries are being carried out to identify the assailants.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the Vine Tavern, or who may have information which could help us with our inquiries to please contact us," Toole said, according to Liverpool Echo. "I would also ask people who were in the area to check dashcam or CCTV footage just in case they may have captured something which may be vital to the case."

Investigators carried out forensic examinations at the scene of the crime. Officers made house-to-house inquiries, and they plan to examine CCTV footage to help pin down the perpetrators.

Police have increased patrol in the area to reassure the community.

This comes a week after a student was sentenced to at least 38 years in prison for killing one man and injuring two others during a spree of "random" knife attacks.

Amine Laouar, 21, who did not know any of his victims, murdered Leon Street on Neasden Lane North, north London, minutes after he stabbed Mirvais Khan, the BBC reported.

Six days later, Laouar attacked Mitul Karaniya at the same location.

Laouar was given a life sentence for the murder. He was also handed concurrent sentences for attempted murder and grievous bodily harm with intent.

Judge Martin Picton said Laouar's crimes were "as inexplicable as they were terrible" and had caused irreversible suffering.
