  • Manchester United is linked to a transfer move for Atletico Madrid's Marcos Llorente
  • Llorente doesn't want to leave Madrid, a report says
  • The Red Devils are also chasing a midfielder possibly better than Paul Pogba, according to reports

Manchester United might have to try a different approach in trying to convince an Atletico Madrid star, a report suggests.

Ahead of the next transfer window, Manchester United is already being linked to a number of midfield prospects. Among them is Atletico Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente, Spanish outlet AS reported.

The Spanish publication said the Red Devils have already tabled a bid of around €80 million ($94 million) for Llorente’s transfer. The said offer has been deemed enticing for Atletico Madrid, but apparently, not for the 26-year-old.

It has been noted that despite the fact that Atletico will certainly benefit from cashing in on Llorente’s transfer, the man himself isn’t keen on “a change of scene” as he is “very comfortable” at Atletico.

The report further said that Llorente is “building a new house in the capital of Spain” and wouldn’t opt to leave the city.

Llorente was a player of the Real Madrid youth team before becoming a regular first-team member at Atletico. He earned Diego Simeone's trust after a successful loan spell at Alaves.

Shortly after arriving at Wanda Metropolitano, Llorente quickly settled in and became one of the club’s most notable players. To date, the Spaniard has already recorded 10 goals and nine assists.

While Llorente is naturally a defensive midfielder, Atletico Madrid boss Simeone has managed to make him an effective attacker in recent games.

Luis Suarez and Joao Felix are the two biggest names in the current Atletico squad. However, Simeone has always been an admirer of Llorente’s game, having referred to the midfield star as an “important” player in the team.

"The facts speak for themselves," Simeone said of Llorente last year. "It is not necessary to praise [Llorente] when you can watch his movement, attitude, pressure and see what is happening to him.”

"After seeing how he worked in training, we tried to put him further on from the Liverpool game and we found a different characteristic from those of [forwards Angel] Correa, Joao [Felix], [Diego] Costa and [Alvaro] Morata,” the coach added. "He gives us a more important footballer in the team."

Aside from Llorente, Manchester United is also plotting a move for Ajax midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, according to reports.

Gravenberch has been on the Red Devils’ radar since October, and United is believed to be planning to make a move for the Dutchman this summer.

The 18-year-old has been likened to Paul Pogba, but his former youth team coach Brian Tevreden recently assessed that Gravenberch is a “better version” of the World Cup winner.
