Manchester City left it late against Villarreal, grabbing a vital 2-1 win against the Spaniards through Sergio Aguero's 93rd minute winner.

A forgettable loss against Bayern Munich in the previous round and a home draw against Napoli before that saw Roberto Mancini label this match as a must-win for City.

However, it wasn't the ideal start for the Eastlands side. Just three minutes into the game, Nigel De Jong's failed attempt at winning the ball, and Joe Hart's fluffed save meant Cani was at hand to tap in the rebound and gain an early advantage for the Spaniards, submerging the Etihad Stadium into deathly silence.

Mancini decided to take off Adam Johnson within 40 minutes, much to the frustration of the Englishman who had scored during the weekend against Aston Villa. It worked out to good effect though as City levelled on 43 minutes when Aleksandar Kolarov's low cross was turned into his own net by Marchena, under pressure from Edin Dzeko.

After a second half of some exciting and nervy football, the match ended in dramatic fashion. With almost the last kick of the game, substitute Sergio Aguero arrived at the far post to tap in a highly valuable winner and send City fans into a frenzy.
