KEY POINTS

  • Harry Kane has been at Tottenham Hotspur since 2009
  • Spurs have labeled Kane with a price tag of $210 million
  • He is being chased by both the Manchester clubs - United and City

Manchester City have been advised to splash $210 million on young sensation Erling Haaland instead of Tottenham’s Harry Kane.

Danny Mills, who played for the Etihad side between 2004 and 2009, believes if Manchester City are going to spend a hefty amount to sign a striker, the club should chase young talents such as Haaland or Kylian Mbappe, instead of 27-year-old Kane, talkSport reported.

Kane is currently contracted with Tottenham Hotspur until 2024. While Spurs would not want to part ways with Kane, who has been associated with the North London since 2009, the 27-year-old English striker’s desire to win trophies could force him to explore other options in the near future.

With the two Manchester clubs after Kane, the Spurs have slapped their arguably best player with a price tag of $210 million.

“If you are going to spend that money I’d go and buy Erling Haaland. I watched him last night and he was sensational. You know why I’d get Haaland? I think he’s got different things to Mbappe. He can do a lot of similar things; obviously Mbappe has the pace and lots of trickery and skill. But Haaland has two or three more assets; he’s 6ft 4, he’s great in the air, can hold the ball up, and I just think there’s a bit more in the mix to Haaland’s game than Mbappe’s. They’re both sensational but I think Haaland in the Premier League – it would be more suited to him,” Mills told Thursday’s talkSPORT Breakfast.

Haaland and Mbappe are tipped to be the future stars as the duo continues to show their beast-form in front of the goal.

Ever since Mbappe was made permanent at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), he has top-scored for PSG in each of three seasons. He netted 39 and 30 goals respectively in 2018-19 and 2019-20. In the 2020-21 campaign, which is his third as a full-time player with PSG, the French playmaker has already scored 21 goals in 29 matches across all competitions.

Meanwhile, 20-year-old Haaland has time and again shown his potential on the field. He moved from Red Bull Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund in January 2020 and since then, he has netted 41 goals in 42 competitive matches. In the current term, he has scored more goals in Europe than any other player – 8, including the brace he scored in Dortmund’s 3-2 win over Seville in the Champions League on Thursday.

It was earlier reported that Real Madrid were planning to keep Martin Odegaard, who is currently on loan at Arsenal, as they believe the midfielder can help them lure his Norway teammate to Santiago Bernabeu.

Mbappe, who is either set to sign an extension with PSG before the end of the 2020-21 campaign or leave Le Parc des Princes Stadium at the end of this term, is also one of Real Madrid’s top targets along with Haaland.
