  • Andreas Pereira spent the last season on loan at Lazio
  • He wants to move away from Man Utd for more game time
  • The Brazilian midfielder is aiming to play the World Cup next year

Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira is reportedly set to go to Brazilian club Flamengo on loan for the 2021-22 season.

An agreement has been reached between Manchester United and Flamengo as the Brazil national Pereira is keen on gaining more game time ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, who has a credible record in transfer markets. Pereira, who did not feature in Manchester United's friendly match against Burnley Tuesday at Old Trafford, has been given a green signal by the Red Devils to leave this summer.

While Manchester United preferred a permanent transfer, the Old Trafford side was also open to a loan deal. It is understood that the deal should become official soon with final paperwork underway between Flamengo and Manchester United.

Flamengo will pay a loan fee of $1.2 million and 60% of his wages for Pereira and the deal is expected to include an option to buy out at the end of the season, reported soccer media outlet Goal.

The 25-year-old Pereira spent last campaign on loan at Lazio but the Serie A club did not want to pay $29 million to sign the midfielder permanently from Manchester United. He was recently featured in the Red Devils' pre-season games and also netted one of his best career goals against Brentford.

He was on the bench for Manchester United's opening game of the 2020-21 Premier League. While he was unused in the match, the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer-managed side thrashed Leeds 5-1 at Old Trafford to kickstart their campaign in style.

Pereira joined PSV Eindhoven in 2005, at the age of nine. Six years later, he had an impressive run in the Manchester United Premier League, a global youth tournament, before he was brought into the club's youth academy by Sir Alex Ferguson. He rose through the ranks and made his senior debut with the Red Devils during the 2014-15 season. He made two appearances that term before he appeared for the senior team in 11 matches the following season.

He has enjoyed three loan spells over the course of his Red Devils’ career, with the most recent one coming at Lazio, where he struggled. He netted just one goal in 33 matches.

Overall for Manchester United, Pereira has scored four goals and provided five assists in 75 competitive matches.
