KEY POINTS

  • Antony has a contract with Ajax until 2025
  • He has played 11 UCL games so far with Ajax
  • Manchester United are not playing UCL this term

Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement with Ajax for winger Antony in the ongoing summer window.

Antony has a contract with Ajax until 2025 but the Brazilian winger has been pushing for a move to Manchester United.

The Red Devils have agreed to pay an initial fee of around $94 million with a further $5 million in add-ons, reported BBC Sport. It is Dutch league Eredivisie's historical record fee.

Manchester United have offered Antony a five-year contract and the deal is expected to be signed Monday, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, who has a credible record in the European transfer market.

The 22-year-old winger is expected to be in Manchester in the next 48 hours to complete medicals.

In the 2022-23 season, Antony has already netted two goals and provided two assists in three competitive games for Amsterdam-based club Ajax. Last season, Antony finished with 12 goals and 10 assists in 33 matches for Ajax. Out of them, eight goals and four assists came in Eredivisie as Ajax won the league title.

Antony, who played 11 games in the Champions League for Ajax and contributed to seven goals (four assists and three goals), will miss out on the top European competitions this season by moving to Manchester United. The Red Devils missed out on the Champions League after failing to finish in the top four of the league last term.

The Brazilian striker is also going to become the joint-fourth most expensive signing in Premier League history after Paul Pogba (to Manchester United in 2016), Romelu Lukaku (to Chelsea in 2021) and Jack Grealish (to Manchester City in 2021).

Antony's move to Manchester United would also see the young forward reunite with his former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag. The former will be the Red Devils' fifth signing under Ten Hag this summer after Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia and Lisandro Martinez.

After losing their opening two games of the 2022-23 Premier League, Manchester United have bounced back by registering two back-to-back victories, including a satisfying 2-1 win over rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Manchester United are next scheduled to take on Arsenal on Sunday in the Premier League. Four matches into the league season, Mikel Arteta's Arsenal are the only side to have won all games.
