Manchester United Rumors: Cristiano Ronaldo Scammed By His 'Trusted' Travel Agent

Cristiano Ronaldo lost not only some of his money but also his trust in one of his private agents.

Amid his hot Manchester United comeback season, Ronaldo has been scammed by his “trusted” travel agent, Marca reported citing Jornal de Noticias.

The said travel agent who took the sum amount of around €288,000 ($337,000) from Ronaldo’s account was identified as Maria Silva.

The report said that Silva, whom Ronaldo has entrusted his bank account details, has done fraudulent activities for “over a period of three years.”

Silva is said to have managed to convince her clients, including Ronaldo, to transfer cash to be used for travel expenses to her account, instead of the account of the travel agency she is working for.

Aside from Ronaldo, Silva, per the report, has also stolen from her other big-name clients such as famed football agent Jorge Mendes as well as football stars Nani and Manuel Fernandes.

While it was unfortunate that Ronaldo lost some of his fortunes in the said scam, his Manchester United return could see him earning a staggering amount of money.

Recently weighing in on how much Ronaldo and Manchester United could make now that the Portuguese has already returned, football finance expert Kieran Maguire said both parties could make revenue through “commercials.”

According to Maguire, with Ronaldo easily one of the most valuable athletes in the world, and the frenzy of his Manchester United return, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner could bring an “extra £500,000” ($690 million) in just one commercial deal.

“[Manchester United] They’re more likely to recover substantial amounts through new commercial partners,” Maguire assessed. “Partners will want players to come and be photographed next to their products. They might send Ronaldo along for an extra £500,000.”

“You only have to do that a dozen or so times and you get a substantial amount back,” the finance guru added. “The player [Ronaldo] makes money, the club makes money, and everybody is a winner. That’s where the money tends to be recouped. It will certainly help their commercial department when they are negotiating commercial deals over the next couple of years.”
