  • Mason Greenwood was caught on footage inhaling nitrous oxide
  • The 18-year-old has already issued an apology for his actions
  • The young star has an estimated value of 45 million Euros

The Manchester United’s rising star Mason Greenwood has issued an apology after a video of him surfaced inhaling nitrous oxide. This is not the first time the young player was mixed up in a center of controversy.

Just last week, Greenwood was sent home from England camp for breaking pandemic protocol. It was reported that he had met up with local girls in the team hotel.

This latest issue of him depicting poor judgment with the balloon and nitrous oxide has resulted in an apology.

"I have now been made aware of the health risks associated with this practice and accept that even trying it, as shown in these historical pictures, was poor judgment on my part. I strongly urge others not to follow my example," Greenwood said, as reported by Goal.

Given the worldwide reach of Manchester United and how Greenwood is slowly rising into one of the more prominent figures of the club, the 18-year-old is seen as a figure with a large influence. Given that people look up to these athletes, Greenwood understands that they are expected to serve as good models off the field.

"As an 18-year-old I am learning all the time, however, this week I have also learned that I will be judged to a higher standard because of my career as a footballer and I must respect that in future. I am determined to repay the faith shown in me by my manager and coaches," Greenwood added.

The Red Devil has been an important figure for the Old Trafford-based squad as he’s developed into one of the more reliable players for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team. The pressure that the forward carries are tremendous given the expectations for the club. The estimated market value of Greenwood has exponentially grown from last April’s 29 million Euros to currently at around 45 million Euros. The huge increase can be attributed to his all-around play on the field.

Throughout 53 appearances with Manchester United, he’s already netted 17 goals and tallied five assists. The presence he brings to the team is important and complements star players Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes as key players of the club.

It will be interesting to monitor how Greenwood can grow and mature as a promising player for Solskjaer. If the young player can stay out of trouble, Manchester United has a valuable asset within their team for years to come.
