KEY POINTS

  • Manchester United will join PSG in a race to sign Romain Faivre
  • Faivre signed an exclusive deal with Brest last summer
  • The Red Devils seem to be in a shopping galore this January transfer window

Manchester United’s quest to sign the top young players from across the globe has hit a roadblock as the club is reportedly set to engage in a tug of war with Paris Saint-Germain for Brest midfielder Romain Faivre.

The 22-year-old has been one of the dark-horse booters this season after making a move from Monaco to Brest for a fee of just £450,000 ($607,596) in the summer.

Brest is currently occupying the 11th spot in the Ligue 1 standings, but Faivre has shined throughout the ongoing campaign.

According to French publication Le10 Sport, his recent field exploits have attracted the interest of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United.

The former France Under-21 squad member has contributed four goals and three assists in his 19 appearances but could be on the move if either of the clubs makes their interest concrete with an official bid.

Brest could be on board to make a healthy profit if the two interested clubs get into a bidding war for the versatile midfielder.

The Red Devils have already added Amad Diallo from Italian outfit Atlanta during the ongoing January transfer window and are said to be keen to further strengthen the first-team roster going into the second half of the season.

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s men are currently level on points with English Premier League leader Liverpool while also holding a game in hand.

Paris Saint-Germain, on the other hand, will be the favorite if the highly-touted prospect decides to direct his career path to France. The club is now operating under the watchful eyes of Mauricio Pochettino.

Pochettino got the chance to personally run the rule on Faivre’s talent as the Paris-based brigade took on Brest last Sunday.

While Faivre played the full 90 minutes, he came away on the losing side as Pochettino recorded his first home win as the manager of Paris Saint-Germain.

Faivre is under contract with Brest until the summer of 2025 after signing a new deal last Christmas. The Ligue 1 club will surely have the last laugh if Paris Saint-Germain or Manchester United decides to make an official approach this month.
