Manchester United will play their first home game since the 6-1 humiliation suffered against bitter-neighbors Manchester City, with Otelul Galati making the trip to OId Trafford for the Uefa Champions League group match on Wednesday.

United currently lie at second place in Group C after managing just one win in the three games played and have made it harder for themselves as they are two points behind leaders Benfica.

In the reverse fixture a fortnight back, United were 2-0 winners against Galati in Romania and they'll look to do the same on Wednesday. Much of the focus is on United defender Rio Ferdinand, who will be 33 on Monday, as he is no longer considered first-choice by manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

However, Ferdinand will start on Wednesday, although it's only because Nemanja Vidic is suspended, and Ferguson maintained that the Englishman still has a major role to play in his plans.

Rio is almost 33 and has obviously lost the yard of pace he had five years ago, said the Scot. But that doesn't mean he cannot tailor his game a different way.

He cannot rely on his pace now. That is obvious. But he is still one of the best footballers in the country in terms of his use of the ball. He still has great presence. He can still tackle and can still head the ball.

We have all faced that decisive moment in your career when you have to realise that you have to change your game, he stated.

Rio is maybe realising now that he has lost that electric yard. He is still one of the best footballers in the country in terms of the use of the ball.

I explained to Rio the other day it is simply that we have young centre-halves coming through and I am very happy to have the defenders we have and I hope I can keep them together for a long time.

Galati come to this game on the back of two consecutive league victories and will be hoping to build on the win and grab at least a draw.

Team News

Ferguson will be without the injured Tom Cleverley, Chris Smalling, Ashley Young and Ryan Giggs, apart from Vidic.

Galati will be devoid of the services of the injured Filip and Salageanu while Milan Perendija is suspended.

Prediction

Man United will be looking to put in a performance, after their disastrous time at Old Trafford before this, and will have too much for Galati.
