KEY POINTS

  • Fernandes is one of the most important members of the Man Utd side
  • He recently fired Portugal to Qatar World Cup 2022
  • Fernandes has netted nine goals and 14 assists for Man Utd this season

Bruno Fernandes has signed a new long-term deal with Manchester United.

Even though Fernanades' deal was until 2025, Manchester United have tied the Portuguese star down in a new contract that will see the midfielder remain a Red Devil until 2027, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, who has a credible record in European soccer. However, International Business Times could not verify it independently.

"Bruno Fernandes and Manchester United until 2027. Here we go," Romano tweeted Thursday.

It has been known for a few days now that Manchester United and Fernandes are in talks over a contract extension. Fernandes, who currently earns a weekly wage of $236,340, is expected to receive a salary increase as a part of the lucrative deal, Sports Illustrated reported.

It was earlier reported that with Paul Pogba close to leaving Manchester United in the 2022 summer, the club's priority was to find an ideal replacement, along with offering Fernandes a fine deal, something they had hoped for the French midfielder.

The 27-year-old had a memorable international break recently as he scored a brace against North Macedonia that saw Portugal book a place in the Qatar World Cup 2022. Interestingly, his fellow Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo provided the assists for both goals.

The former Sporting Lisbon midfielder has been one of the most consistent players in Europe since the 2019-20 season. Fernandes now has 130 goals and assists for club and country since the start of the 2019-20 campaign.

Fernandes, who moved from Sporting to Manchester United during the 2020 January window, took little time to adjust with the Red Devils. He bagged the Premier League Player of the Month award after spending just a month in the league. He has netted 49 goals and 39 assists in as many as 117 appearances for the Old Trafford side across competitions.

Even in the current season, there has been hardly any game where Fernandes did not make his presence felt. Fernandes has scored nine goals and 14 assists in 37 competitive games in the 2021-22 campaign.
