No. 15 St. Peter’s and No. 12 New Mexico State haved pulled off the biggest upsets to start March Madness 2022. After their unlikely victories on Day 1 of the NCAA Tournament, the teams are on the cusp of reaching the Sweet Sixteen.

With its first-round victory over No. 2 Kentucky, St. Peter’s has become one of the most unexpected second-round teams in March Madness history. New Mexico State upset No. 5 Connecticut to become one of the final eight teams in the West region.

Following Thursday's impressive performances, what are the odds that the two teams will make it to the second weekend of March Madness?

St. Peter’s is an eight-point underdog at DraftKings Sportsbook against No. 7 Murray State in Saturday’s second-round matchup. The Peacocks have +330 odds to beat Murray State and make the first Sweet Sixteen appearance in school history.

In a second-round matchup with No. 3 Arkansas, New Mexico State is a 6.5-point underdog. The Aggies have +225 odds to pull off another NCAA Tournament upset.

It would be somewhat stunning for St. Peter’s to make a lengthy March Madness run. The Peacocks have +2500 odds to reach the Elite Eight and +10000 odds to make the Final Four.

New Mexico State is considered even more unlikely to make the Elite Eight with +3500 odds. The Aggies have +7000 odds to win the West.

There has never been a No. 15 seed in the Elite Eight. Only two No. 12 seeds have made the Elite Eight, and neither has played in the Final Four.

Aggies guard Teddy Allen was the star of Thursday’s first-round schedule. The junior scored 37 points in the victory.

Daryl Banks led St. Peter’s with 27 points. The junior averages 11.5 points per game this season.
