Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Trilogy” showed how Bruce Wayne trained to become the Caped Crusader in 2005’s “Batman Begins.” But it seems, Matt Reeves is not going to do things in a traditional way. Reeves has finally revealed that his upcoming movie “The Batman” will not be a traditional origin story and will show the character’s origins in a different style.

Speaking in an interview with Nerdist, the 53-year-old filmmaker noted that he never wanted to make a movie on Batman’s origin. However, he later admitted that the film will “acknowledge” his origins and how he turned out to be one of the deadliest assassins.

The “Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes” helmer also noted the feature film will show Batman rising through his struggles.

“I wanted to do not an original tale, but a take that would still acknowledge his origins, in that it formed who he is. Like this guy, he is majorly struggling, and this is how he is trying to rise above the struggle,” Reeves said.

Later in the interview, the filmmaker also admitted that he was not sure if Warner Bros. would love the idea of making a superhero movie that would just focus on the “humanism” of the character rather than big action scenes. He also noted that if the studio would have said no to his pitch, he would not have directed the movie.

“I am going to pitch the version of Batman that I would do, which is going to have a humanist bent. And who knows if they will have any interest? If they do not, then I won’t do it. I was really lucky that they said yes,” Reeves said.

As far as the movie is concerned, the production has been halted for two weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In January, Reeves told The Hollywood Reporter that “The Batman” will venture further away from the action-packed Batman movies we have been seeing and focus more on a noir, mystery-driven detective story. In a sense, this iteration of Batman is “more Batman in his detective mode than we have seen in the films,” because “the comics have a history of that.”

The film stars Robert Pattinson playing the titular character while Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis, and Zoe Kravitz will have pivotal roles.

The first in the trilogy, “The Batman” is scheduled to hit cinemas on June 25, 2021.
