  • The exes will continue to split custody of their three children

Megan Fox's divorce filing has long been in the cards, but she waited a year before going through with it for a reason, according to a report.

Fox and her estranged husband Brian Austin Green called it quits in November 2019, but it was only on Nov, 25 when the "Transformers" star finally filed for divorce. An unnamed source told E! News that Fox and her ex had to get everything in order first before making their split official, including the custody of their sons Noah, 8, Bodhi, 6, and Journey, 4.

"They needed to hash out custody and figure everything out. It's been in the works and this was always her plan," the insider said. "As soon as they wrapped it up and the papers were in order, she filed. They will continue with 50/50 and have a plan for holidays."

Fox has already moved on from Green and is currently dating Machine Gun Kelly. In fact, she is "looking forward to her future," the insider added.

Rumors about their split first surfaced earlier this year after Fox was spotted driving around Calabasas with Kelly, her co-star in the upcoming film "Midnight In the Switchgrass." She also sparked romance rumors with the rapper when she appeared with him in the music video for his song, "Bloody Valentine."

Fox's estranged husband later confirmed on his podcast “…With Brian Austin Green" that they had split months earlier.

“It sucks when life changes and something that you’re used to, that you’ve been doing for 15 years, you try and not get rid of but you change. There’s the unknown aspect … there’s that pit in my stomach … I really don’t want Megan and I to be at odds … she’s been my best friend for 15 years and I don’t want to lose that,” Green said in May.

"I don’t want people to think her or he are villains or that I was a victim in any way,” he added.

However, things weren’t amicable between the exes following their breakup. Earlier this month, Fox called out Green for posting a Halloween photo with their youngest son, Journey.

"You're so intoxicated with feeding the pervasive narrative that I'm an absent mother and you are the perennial, eternally dedicated dad of the year," she commented on his post.

An insider later told E! News that Fox was done with Green using their kids to get back at her.

"She reached her breaking point and has had enough of Brian's games," the source explained. "She is incredibly frustrated that he's trying to make her look like a bad mom and decided to call him out on it. She especially hates that he's using the kids to try and get back at her."
