Meghan Markle reportedly has a final insult to the United Kingdom.

Two years ago, the Duchess of Sussex applied for British citizenship. According to The Sun, Prince Harry’s wife no longer qualifies to become a citizen of the UK and her application may have been revoked.

One of the requirements in order to be granted citizenship is showing a strong commitment to the UK and an intention to live there. Earlier this month, Markle announced her decision to quit the royal family. She also said that she will be moving to Canada.

Another requirement in order to obtain British citizenship is for the applicant to not have left the UK for more than 270 days in three years before applying.

“The US citizen has to be living in the UK with the British partner when the application to extend the partner visa is made. They must intend to continue to live together permanently in the UK. If there has been any period throughout the first 2½ years where they have not lived together in the UK, government guidance states there must be a good reason for this,” Michael Marziano, a senior immigration lawyer, told the publication.

According to New Idea, Markle’s decision to relocate to Canada could only mean that she is no longer interested to move forward with her application. As such, this is regarded as an insult to the UK.

Prince Harry, on the other hand, will also be relocating to Canada with his wife and son, Archie. However, since he’s a British citizen, he will continue to be one regardless of where he lives.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry and Markle will reportedly lose their titles as youth ambassadors following their bombshell exit. Closes close to the royal couple revealed that Duke and Duchess of Sussex were shocked when they found out that the titles will be revoked.

According to TMZ, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex agreed to give up their HRH titles, but they are disappointed with the loss of their ambassador roles.
