Meghan Markle was publicly welcomed into the royal family by Queen Elizabeth II during her Christmas address.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the queen’s Christmas message was a first in her past seven decades as the monarch. In her speech, Queen Elizabeth II welcomed the new members of their family, but she did not directly mention Markle’s name.

However, it’s clear that one of the newest members of the royal family she referred to was the “Suits” actress because her and Prince Harry’s engagement photo were shown.

Another new family member that was welcomed by the queen was Prince William and Kate Middleton’s third child, who has yet to arrive sometime in 2018.

Other photos featured beside the queen inside the 1844 room in Kensington included Prince George’s photo from his 4th birthday, the queen and Prince Philip’s 70th anniversary portrait, Princess Charlotte’s second birthday picture, the queen’s 1947 wedding portrait and Camilla’s 70th birthday portrait with Prince Charles.

Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth II paved the way for some royal traditions to be broken this year. Not only did she allow Markle to join their entire family’s Christmas celebrations in Sandringham; she also gave Markle the go to attend their family’s Christmas mass.

Following her engagement to Prince Harry, it was reported that Markle will be baptized as a Catholic, and this will happen before they tie the knot on May 19, 2018. As of late, it is still unclear whether or not Markle, who identifies herself as a protestant, has already been baptized as a catholic. But she managed to participate during the mass.

Reports also revealed that Markle will undergo training before she attends public events. It is possible that she was taught by royal experts the do’s and don’ts in church before she attended Monday’s service.

Several photos of Markle walking hand in hand with Prince Harry were also released online on Christmas Day. She was also photographed walking alongside Middleton and Prince William. In the photos, the former actress wears a camel coat that she paired with a hat. Prince Harry, on the other hand, wore a grey suit.
