Microsoft has yet to announce any updates about their surface phone and their Andromeda project. However, a known leaker noted that the next Microsoft device release may not use the Andromeda project after all. Here’s what we know about this.

According to Steve Troughton-Smith’s Twitter, the Andromeda project is not even in Microsoft’s plan for their upcoming new releases anymore. Troughton-Smith noted that the Andromeda project is made from the Windows Phone system. However, Microsoft has already asked Windows Phone users to transfer to Android and iOS as they’re about to stop supporting the platform by the end of 2019.

The Andromeda project is speculated to be the least of Microsoft priorities as of the moment. Moreover, WindowsCentral’s Zac Bowden also noted that Microsoft is focusing on other projects such as Lite OS at the moment. Potentially, he said that the Andromeda project might be added to the Lite OS device too.

The Andromeda project was expected to be one of the new wave of smartphones to be released this 2019. During CES 2019, the new smartphones seem to have the “foldable displays” as its screen could be bent to enlargen, minimize and change the display style, which could bring new levels of comfort to the user. Samsung, Royole and other developers already have these “foldable display” smart devices to be released later this 2019. The Microsoft Andromeda project was expected to offer a similar innovation, but the developers don’t seem to be ready to show it yet.

Currently, Microsoft hasn’t released any official update about the Microsoft Andromeda. No devices, operating systems or even an official progress updates have been announced for this. For now, all we have is that Microsoft is planning to discontinue the Windows phone support later this year. Potentially, the company may start talking about the Andromeda, Lite OS and their other new releases later this 2019.

For now, we’ll have to wait for more updates from the developers to see if they’re still working on the project or if it has been scrapped completely.
