The Motorola Moto Z is a revolutionary modular smartphone by Lenovo. The company has also announced several snap-on modules for the smartphone. One of its major rivals is the iPhone 6S Plus. Here is a comparison between the Moto Z and iPhone 6S Plus on the basis of their specifications, features and price.

Design and Display

The Motorola Moto Z and Apple iPhone 6S Plus both are blessed with metal unibody chassis. The iPhone 6S Plus measures 145.9 x 71.9 x 9 mm and its weight is 161 grams. It is four colors variants are space gray, silver, gold and rose gold.

The dimensions of the Moto Z are 153 x 75.3 x 5.2 mm and it weighs 136 grams. It comes in color choices such as gray, rose gold, gold and white.

The Moto Z has a 5.5-inch AMOLED display that produces a Quad HD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. The 5.5-inch IPS LCD screen of iPhone 6S Plus supports full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Chipset, RAM and Storage

The Lenovo Moto Z comes in two storage options of 32 GB and 64 GB. Both the variants are powered by Snapdragon 820 chipset and 4 GB of RAM. It carries support for microSD card.

The Apple A9 SoC is present under the hood of the iPhone 6S Plus along with 2 GB of RAM. There is no external storage on the device, but it comes in native storage options like 16 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB.

Camera, Software and Other Features

The Moto Z has a 13-megapixel rear camera that is enabled with dual-LED flash, optical image stabilization and autofocus. The selfie camera of the smartphone is of 5-megapixel and it is provided with a front-facing LED flash. It comes preinstalled with Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS.

There is 12-megapixel camera enabled with features like OIS and dual-LED flash on the rear side of the iPhone 6S Plus. It is also equipped with a front-facing camera of 5-megapixel. The smartphone is preloaded with iOS 9.

Even though the Moto Z sports an ultra-thin design, the snap-on modules for the smartphone such as external speakers, additional battery backup, pico projector and more increases the overall thickness of the device. The display of the iPhone 6S Plus supports 3D Touch feature that can distinguish between lighter and hard presses on the screen and produce feedback accordingly.

The Lenovo Moto Z lacks a 3.5 mm audio jack, but it allows user to listen to music by connecting wired headphones to its USB Type-C port. The Moto Z and iPhone 6S Plus also feature NFC and fingerprint readers.

Battery and Price

The Moto Z’s slim design has allowed manufacturers to include a battery of 2,600 mAh capacity. The iPhone 6S Plus features a larger battery of 2,750 mAh capacity.

The price of the unlocked Moto Z smartphone has not been announced yet and according to the official blog post from Motorola, the Moto Z release date is set in summer this year. However, its base model is likely to cost $499. Verizon will be selling an exclusive variant of the smartphone called Moto Z Droid in the U.S.

The iPhone 6S Plus costs $749, $849 and $949, respectively for its 16 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB variants. It is available through all the major carriers in the U.S.
