Meat-free and plant-based burgers continue to be the craze these days as more and more people make the switch to consuming cruelty-free food and to making decisions that have positive impacts on the environment.

National Veggie Burger Day is a day dedicated to encourage people to try veggie burgers as well as celebrate the food's positive impact on the planet. Held annually every June 5, the special day has given rise to various restaurants offering meat-free products on their menu.

Here's a list of places where you can get the best plant-based burgers on National Veggie Burger Day 2021, courtesy of Thrillist and Mashed:

White Castle Impossible Slider
Soft, juicy and flavorful -- these are what make White Castle's Impossible Slider one of the best vegetarian burgers out there. The patty that comes with the burger is as juicy as a regular beef patty and is served with smoked cheddar, pickles and grilled onions.

The delicious combination of the ingredients might even make you skip the ketchup and mayo, according to Thrillist, since the burger is perfect just the way it is.

Burger 21's Black Bean Burger
This restaurant's Black Bean Burger is made up of just that -- black beans turned into patties served with avocado, red onions, tomatoes and cilantro cream. Burger 21's meat-free specialty is smokey, flavorful, and just downright delicious.

Several black bean burgers have been criticized for being mushy and falling apart easily, but Burger 21's Black Bean Burger is sure to stay intact even at the very last bite.

BurgerFi's VegeFi burger
The best kinds of plant-based burgers are those that don't try so hard to taste like meat. BurgerFi's VegeFi burger is crispy, light and everything that a vegetable-based burger can be. Made up of quinoa and vegetables, this burger is packed with flavor despite it being meatless.

One possible downside to this treat, however, is that there is white cheese in the burger's patty, so although it is vegetarian, it can't be vegan.

Carl’s Jr. Beyond BBQ Cheeseburger
It comes as no surprise that many have come to love this plant-based burger. Carl's Jr Beyond BBQ Cheeseburger is said to be similar to the Western Bacon Cheeseburger, but with no bacon. According to Thrillist, it's made up of pretty much the same ingredients as the Western -- two onion rings, American cheese and BBQ sauce -- except the beef was swapped with a Beyond patty.

The perfect mix of the ingredients in the Beyond BBQ Cheeseburger is enough to convince anyone that what they're eating is actual meat.

Shake Shack's 'Shroom Burger
What makes Shake Shack's 'Shroom Burger one of the best things on the menu is its cheese. The burger is made with muenster and cheddar cheese stuffed into a fried portobello mushroom, and Mashed considers it the third-best meatless burger anyone could try.

Although the deep-fried burger does not have the texture of meat in it, it's easy to overlook once you get a taste of its crunchy, delicious fillings.
