The NBA 2K League is giving fans a chance to play with the pros of the game and earn some cash while staying at home amid the coronavirus quarantine.

Last week, the 2K League announced the "Three For All Showdown," an online 3-on-3 tournament that will allow ordinary gamers and fans to compete with top 2K gamers and social media influencers in a week-long event.

A combined prize of $25,000 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One brackets will be given away to the last teams standing in the competition. The event is slated to start this Friday, March 27, and will last until April 3.

To kick off the tournament, the fan stage will begin on March 27. On March 31, the NBA 2KL stage – composed of NBA 2K League franchises, influencers and top female gamers – will start as the pros and the fan-organized teams fight against each other.

Registration for the online battle started on Monday. However, it is worth noting that not all sign-ups will get to participate.

"I think with everything that's going on right now, this tournament allows everyone to come together and not only pass time but also enjoy themselves while playing a game we all love," Blazer5 Gaming player and NBA 2K League Season 2 MVP Nidal Nasser told ESPN last week.

Nasser, also known for his NBA 2K avatar Mama Im Dat Man, also expressed his excitement about the competition, particularly the format which is expected to excite fans and produce highlight-reel worthy moments.

"The format is awesome, in my opinion, because it's quick, fast-paced matches that will have everyone on the edge of their seats,” Nasser furthered. “Not to mention the money the LG is swaying over everyone's heads. Everyone should be really excited for what's to come. Playing vs. teams in the LG and also influencers gives everyone a chance to make a name on a big stage and allows them to use their success towards season 4."

The NBA 2K League postponed its 2020 season, which was due to start last March 24, because of the coronavirus pandemic. In response, the organization created the “Three For All Showdown” as they work on the details of rescheduling the campaign.

Amid the COVID-19 crisis, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced in mid-March that there should be no events of 50 or more people for the next two months. Considering the recommendation, it seems unlikely for the NBA 2K League to resume operations in April.
