  • Stephen Curry allegedly sides with mother Sonya in the divorce case against Dell
  • Many wonder if the issue will affect Stephen's performance next season
  • Dell's relationship with Steph after the breakup remains unknown

Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors already has a lot to think about leading into the 2021-22 NBA season.

He knows they can perform better, and the last thing he would need is distractions.

But one thing that may not go away anytime soon is the divorce of his parents, Dell and Sonya. Although he is now 33 years old and has a family of his own, the question posed by many is whether this unfortunate development would affect the two-time NBA MVP’s focus and performance.

Stephen and Dell are undoubtedly some of the popular father-and-son duos the NBA has to date. But as far as relationships, that could be strained if recent reports are to be factored in.

This is about an article from MTO News suggesting that Stephen holds a special relationship with his mother and reportedly plans to support Sonya. The same holds for his wife, Ayesha.

“[Steph] has a special relationship with his mother, and so he’s supporting her,” an insider was quoted as saying in the report. “His relationship with his father is strained after this. He’s disappointed that [Dell] would put all their family business out there. He doesn’t believe the accusations against his mother.”

Sonya filed for divorce against Dell last June 14. She alleged that the retired NBA player cheated on her during the marriage, alleging that that 57-year-old hooked up with different women.

She also added that family and friends knew about it, TMZ reported. News about the breakup came two full months after the divorce filing.

But the issue did not stop there. Dell would later claim that Sonya also cheated on him with an ex-NFL player, all of which were contained in court documents.

Looking ahead, it will be interesting how things develop between the two. Meanwhile, the psychological aspect of this divorce may affect Stephen's focus in some capacity.
