  • Liverpool looks to acquire Mikkel Daamsgaard from Sampdoria
  • Sampdoria's asking fee may scorn the Reds' chase for Damsgaard
  • Daamsgaard looms as a future investment for Liverpool

Liverpool is reportedly contemplating adding one or two players before the transfer window closes on Tuesday, August 31.

One potential target of the Reds is Mikkel Damsgaard of Sampdoria.

Damsgaard has a host of admirers and Liverpool is allegedly trying to make a move for the Euro 2020 star.

However, La Samp is expected to try and earn a profit from any potential deal after acquiring the Danish player for £6 million ($8.26 million) last September, Sampnews 24 reported.

Damsgaard has so far scored twice and has issued four assists with Sampdoria in Seria A. He has been known to operate on the left-hand side and flat-four midfield.

But the fact that he can play several positions makes him an interesting signing by other clubs.

In the European Championships, Damsgaard scored twice and issued an assist. One of the highlights he had was that free-kick of the European Championships against England.

Liverpool possibly taking in Damdsgaard would make sense especially with Xherdan Shaqiri having moved to Olympique Lyonnais.

However, the 21-year-old may have to work his way towards getting a regular spot with Sadio Mane still holding the left-hand spot for now.

Aside from Mane, there is also Diogo Jota to contend with. Hence, any potential addition of Damsgaard would be good nevertheless, providing some healthy competition for the said position.

Considering the Danish footballer spent a fair amount of time playing the No. 10 last season, he could be an ideal option behind the striker. This is assuming that Jurgen Klopp opts to go with a 4-2-3-1 this coming season.

Another option for Damsgaard is the central midfield. Gini Wijnaldum moved to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, but his lack of familiarity with the position may be a problem.

At any rate, there is a reason for Liverpool fans to get excited. Damsgaard is a promising and talented football player and can only get better.

If not this season, the Danish footballer is undoubtedly a good investment for the Reds moving forward.

But all that can only evolve better if the Reds can afford Daamsgaard.

Sampdoria may ask as much as £43 million ($59 million) for the prolific winger, a fee that the Reds may not be willing to oblige.
