KEY POINTS

  • The NBA trade deadline is fast approaching
  • The Cleveland Cavaliers Big Man Tristan Thompson is a piece they can trade
  • The Boston Celtics and LA Clippers are possible locations for the big man

The NBA trade deadline is almost upon us and the talk around the league is starting to gain momentum. Although the market doesn’t involve once in a generation talent in the picture, there are still serviceable stars available for front offices to consider. February 6 is just around the corner and organizations are seeking to find the best deal to add for the team.

A mid-season trade can make or break a team’s chances of making a deep playoff push. However, there are other teams that might pull the plug as early as the All-Star break to reconsider their future. The Cleveland Cavaliers are speculated to be in that position as they sit currently tied at last place with the Atlanta Hawks. They are at 13 wins and 37 losses in the Eastern Conference.

The Cleveland Cavaliers of the 2019-2020 season are completely different from the team dominating the playoff standings years ago. Gone are the days of title contention and enter the time of struggling and rebuilding. With the team’s performance, it’s important to note that their current franchise player Kevin Love has been involved in trade rumors due to his body language and demeanor on the court.

But if there’s one piece more than Kevin Love that has the league buzzing for potential trades, it’s Tristan Thompson. The former champion provides the inside muscle that can benefit any team. His defensive and rebounding skills can be useful for any team hoping to make a deep run in the playoffs.

One of these teams includes the Boston Celtics. The Boston Celtics are gunning for a top seed once the regular season ends. Given that they lost the inside play of center Al Horford, the Green and White can benefit from having the services of someone like Tristan Thompson. The Celtics still have the first-round picks from the Memphis Grizzlies and can send that towards the Cavaliers for Thompson – solidifying Cleveland’s case for a rebuild.

In addition, the LA Clippers might have to take a swing for Tristan Thompson given their need for a natural center in the paint. Having him inside while Kawhi Leonard and Paul George do their own thing offensively can serve as a matchup for Anthony Davis if the two meet in the playoffs this year.
