KEY POINTS

  • Lionel Messi joined PSG in the 2021 summer
  • He has netted only seven goals this season
  • Mbappe is PSG's leading scorer with 26 goals

Neymar reportedly earns more than Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

The Brazilian playmaker is the highest-paid soccer player at PSG and he earns nearly $4.5 million per month, reported French publication L'Equipe. Messi, who moved from FC Barcelona to PSG on a free transfer last summer, earns close to $4 million a month and $27 million net per season in Paris, plus a loyalty bonus of $16 million, bringing his net salary to over $33 million.

Messi's current contract with PSG is certainly lesser than what he received in his last few years at Barcelona. The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner earned $67 million a year there, according to Spanish media outlet Diario AS.

Meanwhile, Mbappe is way behind his fellow PSG front three as the French national earns a weekly wage of $2.3 million. PSG have offered Mbappe a new deal that would make him the highest player in the world, let alone PSG. However, the former Monaco forward has not accepted an extension yet and could leave PSG as a free agent at the end of the 2021-22 season.

Among PSG's primary goal scorers, Mbappe by far has been the best in the ongoing campaign. The 23-year-old forward has netted 26 goals and 17 assists in 37 matches across all competitions for PSG. In the list of leading scorers for PSG in 2021-22, Messi stands second with seven goals and 11 assists. The difference between Mbappe and Messi's stats is staggering.

PSG recently were eliminated from the Champions League following a 3-2 loss to Real Madrid. It was Mbappe who scored the two goals for PSG.

Even though PSG are desperately trying to convince Mbappe to sign an extension, he is heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid in the 2022 summer market.

Meanwhile, in the 2021-22 Ligue 1, PSG are 12 points clear at the top after 29 matches.
