KEY POINTS

  • Joe Burrow ended his college career with a perfect season with the LSU Tigers
  • The Cincinnati Bengals selected Burrow first overall after struggling in the 2019 season
  • The latest AFC North predictions still have the Bengals last place in their division

The biggest name of the rookie class Joe Burrow is expected to make big changes to the Cincinnati Bengals. The number one overall pick is anticipated to become a star despite the Bengals’ poor performance in the AFC North predictions.

The recent regular-season projections of Pro Football Focus had the Bengals winning a maximum of 6.7 games. While this is a big improvement from last year’s 2-14 record, it goes on to show that there’s a lot of progress to be made.

This, however, doesn’t faze Burrow at all as he’s expected to shine above the burden of a struggling franchise. Per Sports Illustrated, Burrow shared that he’s not going to let the pressure get to him.

"Maybe there is, maybe there isn’t. I’m not going to focus on that," Burrow said.

"I’m going to focus on putting in the work every day to become the best player I can be. The media loves to talk about pressure, and I think some guys let it get to them. I think if I put in the work, that pressure will be mitigated,” Burrow added.

The hype of Burrow is merited given how he ended his college career. In one of the most recent memorable years, Burrow accomplished a perfect season in his final campaign with the LSU football program.

The country saw a dominant display put out by Burrow in the National Championship Game as he threw for 463 yards and was accountable for six touchdowns. This performance led the LSU Tigers to defeat the Clemson Tigers 42-25 as Burrow took home the game’s offensive MVP. To wrap it all up, it was an exceptional year for the signal-caller as he tallied a total of 5,669 passing yards.

Despite these, Burrow understands the situation he is in. As Peyton Manning shared with Burrow, there’s a reason why a team is able to draft first overall.

“So other people have to step up, have to give him some help. But for him I tried to tell him it’s a marathon, not a sprint,” he shared by way of Bleacher Report.

The anticipation is high for the Heisman Trophy winner and it’ll be interesting to see how he can lead the Bengals in the coming years.
